TheĀ benefits of being a member of PLWA include:

  1. Representation on the single peak body representing public libraries in Western Australia to lobby on behalf of public libraries and promote services to the wider community. The results of the short promotional campaign, including media exposure, before the 2010 State Budget demonstrate the value of this approach;
  2. Input into the implementation of the Strategic Reform of Public Libraries Report in WA through the PLWA representative on the Strategic Library Partnership Steering Committee (SLPASC) and Operational Management Group
  3. Supporting one peak body which can coordinate an approach to grant funding which will benefit public libraries State-wide and enhance access and equity. With a grant-funded model proposed in the Report on Structural Reform, it is important that all local government libraries have equitable access to available funding;
  4. Access to existing professional networks and opportunities to develop new ones at higher levels with other agencies within WA and nationally;
  5. Access to ongoing opportunities for professional development including support for new professionals, training, and workshops to address either operational or strategic issues;
  6. The opportunity to attend the PLWA conference, often the only chance library staff in WA have to attend a conference and networking and training events.
