Welcome to the Public Libraries Western Australia Inc (PLWA) website.

Public Libraries Western Australia Inc. (PLWA) was constituted in 2009 to be the peak body to represent public libraries in Western Australia, working with state government and WALGA on behalf of its membership and to work nationally with Public Libraries Australia (PLA) and the Australian Library & Information Association (ALIA). PLWA plays a crucial role advocating for public libraries and their associated services in Western Australia.

Membership is open to all local government library systems in Western Australia, and annual subscriptions become due each September.

Advocacy

PLWA is the peak body for Western Australian public libraries and is the only organisation that provides an exclusive 'mouthpiece' advocating for these bodies. PLWA played a significant role in the 2010 public libraries funding debate in Western Australia and its leaders were featured significantly in the media around the campaign to maintain library funding.

If you are interested in a sustainable future for public libraries in Western Australia, tell your executive/manager about how important being a member is, and contact:
